About

Jonathan is the principal and founder of J. Solomon Law. He obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Windsor in 2011 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2013.

He obtained his B.Sc. at Concordia University in 2006, and his M.Sc. from McGill University in 2008. During his Masters, he researched the biological properties of a parasite that affects 120 million people around the world. He has since traded in his lab coat for his Barrister gown, and is now contributing to the well-being of others through his legal practice. Jonathan previously sat on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa, and Pathways to Independence. Jonathan is also a part time professor in the Law Clerk and Paralegal Programs at Algonquin College.

Jonathan completed a policy internship at a nonpartisan not-for-profit corporation that informs public policy development in Canada. In 2012, he articled at a national intellectual property law firm in Ottawa. Following articling he was a volunteer and contract lawyer at an Ottawa based Legal Aid clinic, and many years as an associate with a litigation firm in Ottawa.

Jonathan’s family law practice spans areas of custody, access, child support, spousal support, division and equalization of property. He represents individuals in Applications, Motions to Change, and out of court negotiations. As well, he has experience drafting cohabitation agreements, marriage contracts, and separation agreements. He accepts legal aid certificates issued by Legal Aid Ontario. Jonathan is also certified in Collaborative Family Law. Jonathan also has experience in the field of estates, drafting Wills and POAs for his clients, and representing clients in estate disputes.

Jonathan’s civil litigation practice covers areas of employment law, in particular wrongful dismissal litigation, and often consults with clients when they are presented with a contract or a severance package. Jonathan represents his clients in personal injury law cases, including Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA) and Slip & Falls. Jonathan represents small business owners in the Ottawa region with litigation resulting from failed business relations. Jonathan also focuses his practice on disability rights, representing his clients in Long Term Disability (LTD) claims, Canadian Pension Plan Disability (CPP) and Work Place Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) appeals.

Throughout his life, Jonathan has committed himself to volunteering and giving back to the community, including: teaching swimming to multi-disabled children, raising money for both a women’s shelter and cancer research, volunteering as a tutor for illiterate adults and at a day care in a developing country. As such, it is his compassion and tenacity that he bestows upon all of his clients’ matters at often challenging moments in their lives.

When he is not practicing law, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
